I've been running the Yahoo Widget Engine on my desktop ever since Yahoo bought it and made it free. One of my favourite widgets was a Canadian Weather RADAR that showed the amount of precipitation in a selected area of Canada.
However, Environment Canada recently changed their RADAR Imagery web site and the original widget no longer works. So, I built my own from scratch to work with the changed site and the new features it provides.
My Weather RADAR for Canada widget has the following features:
- Allows selection of any RADAR site in Canada (as of this posting)
- Allows selection of RAIN or SNOW precipitation tracking
- Images are automatically updated every 10 mintues
- Any of the new "overlay" images provided by Environment Canada can be selected
- The widget can be resized from 25% to 175% the size of the original image
- Double-clicking on the widget will toggle the RADAR animation
The widget tries to be somewhat intelligent about searching for the most recent RADAR image but it still might fail, especially if your local computer clock isn't set correctly. If you're having trouble with the widget, please email me.
